“muku & coro - long distance” is a site-specific installation project which takes form of an exhibition consisting of eleven kakejiku. Each scroll is showcased separately at eleven friends’ homes.

In order to realize this exhibition, 11 friends were asked to collaborate by playing roles as gallery owners, hosting a scroll on their wall for 10 months. Each collaborator receives his/her friends during the exhibition period, presenting the scroll to them at his/her own will.

The exhibition features 11 new scrolls of Muku (a dog and childhood friend who died, part of my ongoing muku project/series started in 1998) This series explores the sentiment and formation of memory while it also deteriorates. How does the emotional response to the deterioration of memory affect on the process of formation of a new memory which is carried further or lived with?
